Interview with Alex Zavistovich of the Edgar Allan Poe Theatre

We have a very exciting show for you today. We are talking with Alex Zavistovich of the Edgar Allan Poe Theatre, talking about how they are bringing the works of Poe to the stage!

Alex Zavistovich (Artistic Director) is co-founder of the 501c3 non-profit Molotov Theatre Group and founder of The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre.

He was also founding Managing Director of Lean & Hungry Theater, which performs radio drama adaptations of the classics of English literature. The works of Lean & Hungry Theater have been aired on NPR affiliate stations in Washington, DC, Austin TX, and Tampa, FL.

Poe Theater on the Air is available through Baltimore NPR affiliate WYPR, and on NPR.org

What began as one of Molotov Theatre Group’s most successful shows in its ten-year run, Eric Coble’s “Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe” gave birth to a much larger idea:

To create a theatre production and entertainment organization focused on presenting the works of Edgar Allan Poe for the stage, for broadcast, and for education.

Today, The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre balances itself on three pillars of success:

Tourism and an enhanced visitor experience for Baltimore, Education, specifically English language literacy for underserved young people, and responsible development and inclusivity.

In time, The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre plans to have a permanent Baltimore location for its Poe-themed entertainment, catering to the varied needs of all of the city’s residents.
