Day 1 at the RT Book Convention in Los Angeles
This is our first RT Book Convention and I must say it is an excellent event. Some of the quick highlights: Dean Koontz made an appearance by talking about the craft of writing. However going on at the same time was Allison Brennan, Jan Burke, D.P. Lyle, Stephen Jay Schwartz and Alexandra Sokoloff. I figured getting 5 masters was better than one. First off, if you have never been to a book convention, what you have are panel after panel of great author talking about different subjects. You really have to manage your time correctly and plan out your day to catch as much as you can. The best panel I’ve ever seen was the one with Stephen Jay Schwartz and Alexandra Sokoloff, talking about screenwriting going to novel writing. I learned things that happen behind the scenes in screenwriting, how to layer a book, and what to watch out for when writing or watching. When the panel was over I wanted to lock myself in a room and starting writing, I was that juiced up.
Who we met that was new to us: Catherine Coulter, Allison Brennan, Jan Burke, Stephen Jay Schwartz, Andrew Peterson, and many more. We didn’t plan on staying through the Heather Graham and Helen Rosenberg Vampire Ball, but we had to. The costumes were wonderful and we were a little under dressed. Not only did we meet some great new authors, but some great business people.
I guess Facebook really works, because I was posting which panel I was in and one of our fans posted back saying they were in the next room. Luckily we were able to meet.
If you are a single guy, you really need to hit this convention, it is 90% women, do I need to say any more!
Yesterday was a long day, but a very good one. Just sitting around in the bar and open areas is great to sit down with fans and authors and just chat about anything. If you are aspiring to be a writer and either need that extra help or push, you need to attend one of these conventions. You will hear the low end and the high end of writing and publishing, cause like any occupation, it is not always the most glamorous once you get into it.
Check out the RT Book Convention online, cause every panel is recorded and you can get a copy. Hopefully we will see more of you there today, as we are leaving in about an hour to head back downtown!

Sounds like an awesome experience and opportunity to meet people who are in your niche. I have never attended a book convention but by the description above I feel like I should. I hope things continue to go well for you.
